SAMUEL DE CHAMPLAIN

Born in Brouage around 1567, he died in Quebec City in 1635. Seaman, explorer and administrator in the french colonies. He made a few exploration trips in 1600 and 1604. Fouded Port Royal in Acadia in 1604. He founded Quebec City in 1608. Lieutenant-General of Nouvelle-France in 1620 and an ally of the Algonquins against the Iroquois.He favoured the expansion of the colony. Governer-General in 1633. Husband of Hélène Boullé (1599-1654).
